Windows 7: How to use 6 axis with xinput gamepads?

How to use 6 axis with xinput gamepads?

Xinput is broken and maps 6 axis controllers with analog shoulder buttons to 5 axis, the shoulder buttons sharing a single axis and negating each other when they should have separate input axis.
The same controllers have those 6 axes and work perfectly when plugged into consoles.

I raised the issue with Microsoft but I doubt anything will come out of it, the bug has been around for years and no one even reported it until now, I did so but for several days no one has reacted at all.

Is there any workaround to this, any way to force windows to map the axes correctly?
