    Unable to install SimCity Societies

I am having trouble installing SimCity Societies, my computer exceeds the system requirements so I know there are no problems there, but as soon as I insert the disc, it makes an odd sound, although it appears to be reading the disc the sound is very fast and juddery, and everything takes an age to load, eventually the setup wizard appears, but when it gets to the point of installing the green bar gets stuck at about 10%, and does nothing, I've tried running the setup a few times and sometimes it will say a file directory is corrupt somewhere, is this a fault of the disc or my computer? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Usually, a funny sound coming from a CD/DVD drive is not a good sign. They are very cheap devices, and they are built cheaply, and thus do not have a long life span.

One way to rule out the disk is to take it to a friend's house and see if it reads there. You don't have to install the software there, just put the disk in and see if the menus pop up in a reasonable time, or if it makes funny noises. I doubt that it will. I suspect your drive is starting to go bad.

I tried the disc on a friends laptop, and it would not work on that either, so I decided to buy another copy of the game, and surprisingly it worked, and the disc didn't make any unusual sounds either.

Well, I stand corrected. That's fantastic. I'm glad that you were able to get it worked out without the nuisance of having to install another drive.

Was the disk scratched, or anything like that?

The disc looked in good condition, I found it odd that it wouldn't work on another computer, so I thought my only option was to try a different disc, and surprisingly it worked. At least it was a simple fix in the end.

Just out of interest, where did the original disc come from?

I bought it from a seller on Amazon.
