    Started playing Amnesia: Dark Descent.

I bought this game and played for a night. The next day I sold it to a friend for a discounted price, took that money and went directly to the store to buy some new undies.

Wishmaster made mention of this game. I'm curious now. How's the game performance? Any graphics/performance issues?

I bought it on Steam, so I'm stuck with it forever and a day now. Got a supply of clean undies ready, lol.

For what it is, the graphics are some of the best atmospheric graphics I've seen. They really complement the game's setting. Game runs fine on my system on almost full graphics. Had to keep ambient occlusion turned down as that kills framerates.

I've played Penumbra previously from the same developers, so I'm familiar to the physics system used and it's a great system how you can open doors yourself at your own speed, and open draws/cupboards and jump in closets to hide, lol.

I need to do some research on this game. The reason I asked is because I had Cryostasis which ran like crap on my system. Found out it was optimized for Nvidia (basically an Nvidia showcase) and thus ran horridly on ATI cards - Rage3D Discussion Area - View Single Post - Cryostasis - Horror

Don’t want to make the same mistake with another obscure game.

Nah Amnesia is nothing like that. Pretty sure neither company have had the game optimised for their cards.

Actually I believe Wishmaster played it with her ATI 4890. I'll see what she has to say.

    Thanks.

I wanna play it, but I'm stuck revising for an exam tomorrow

I also wanna play Pirates of the Burning Sea, but SOE services are still down, so that's a no go.

Overall, Amnesia on my 4890 did quite well.
It looked good, and played smoothly. It just couldn't MAX the setting out.

I had to tweak the settings a bit to get it to play smoothly.

If I recall correctly, its been awhile since I played it...
The 4890 had minor performance issues with SSAO. This had to be turned down as well as SSAO samples.
Paralax seems to have caused some performance issues as well. If I remember correctly, I disabled this.

AA was fine as well, but had to be set to x2.

Even with these settings turned down to smooth out gameplay, it still looked nice on the 4890.

Bear in mind, this was at 1920x1080P as well. So a bit lower resolutions may be able to turn some of this up a bit.
More powerful cards than this one should have no issues.

Beyond that, some features I didnt like like motion Blur type stuff I disbaled, but it wasnt a performance issue.

My 570 has no issues running it at Max though and I think the 6950/70 can do just as well.

Basically, the game does run very well.
Just certain cards may not be able to make use of all the the features the game offers, at MAX settings and high resolutions.
It will still look good though.

Play Amnesia in the dark, with Headphones or 5.1 sound. And turn it up. Awesome Game if you like being scared!! And I dont mean cheap scares that just shock you.

I've been playing it in the dark with my 5.1 surround. Was at a part when I heard a loud bang with footsteps, so hid in a closet for about 10 minutes haha.

There's been a couple of times, like in the refinery where it's pitch black everywhere and I'm on the verge of running out of oil and was bricking it, but luckily found a tank of oil to refill it fully.

But about the graphics, I can max it out on my 470, but setting a high ambient occlusion too high will kill the fps.

I found a bug though before going in to the refinery. I got my canister of acid and went to melt that stuff blocking the refinery door, then returned to the lab to get more acid, but it wouldn't let me get more acid, so I went back to the refinery door and the red stuff had grown back and I couldn't get more acid. Had to go back a couple of saves to fix it.
