Maybe not the best term to use ..

Things that fall into this category IMHO are games such as, Super Mario Bros or Super Mario 64 and even Tomb Raider are what I consider Platform games.

I just meant the game has this type of gameplay meaning
Lots of jumping form platform to platform, flip a switch or pull a lever to unlock paths that were closed previously (or solve a small puzzle), and figure out how to progress through the world as you explore.
As well as lots of action and combat in the mix as well.

I cant argue with you on that. Its starting to occur more and more often, then we end up with games like dragon age 2.

Unfortunately with the amount of time and money that it takes to develop games, especially cross platform titles - the publishers have an ever increasing say in not only when a game is 'ready' for release but also the creative direction a game should go. And us, the end users, pay the price which are often generic and unfinished games.

If you think about it, alot of the really good games took quite some time to develop. Also, it would be obvious many times, that the developers put a lot of love and care into the project, because they loved what they were doing.

As of late, it just seems more about, how much money can we make as opposed to lets do this because we love doing it.

It's mostly the publishers that are the bane of our existence trying to maximise profits.

There are undoubtedly still developers who love what they do and take pride in their work but with the way publishers are now, fewer and fewer developers have the freedom to make what they really want.

The 'release then patch, patch, patch' is testament to these enforced deadlines. So too is some of the DLC content that is available so soon after release. Aside from the fact that it's double dipping to make $$$, you just know that some of it would have been included for free if the developers were given the extra time.

*sigh* I miss the pre-DLC days when small things were added in a patch for free and major additions were sold as expansion packs. Not this gouging piece-meal released DLC crap that exists today
