Beta what you gonna do. Maybe something got corrupt.
Beta what you gonna do. Maybe something got corrupt.
I would check and see if it is added to your Windows Firewall, I have heard of this causing games to freeze on Vista when the prompt comes to allow and then the game is waiting for a response from the firewall before it continues. Perhaps ensure that it is added in your windows firewall settings, as well I would recommend trying to right click and Run as Administrator, since if it needs to do any updates for the game, this could cause freezing when trying to write to the Program Files directory since Vista/7 has escalated privileges. Seems to be working fine. Oh and what is your Windows Experience Index score, perhaps your hardware cannot run this game??
I don't have that problem with COD4 just in the beta.
Well so far I installed Win 7 64 bit, creative xtreme fatality drivers and at first the windows update tried to install the Nvidia driver's for my 2 8800gs cards I run in SLI.
Since that failed I installed 181.20 and the updated Physx from Nvidia site using Vista 64 builds.
They installed and Physx runs in 32 bit mode and 181.20 goes fine. Had to Manual update directx 9 files before CODWAW would even load.
Played both solo and multi with no problems in game play. Had settings maxed and 7.1 sound was very nice. Noticed artifacts and graphics no where as nice as my WinXP or even Vista installs.
Fixed the Windows update problem, removed 181.20 and physx. Installed Nvidia's beta drivers. Setup SLI with them.
Game loads, plays opening vids and when click to play either solo or multi get black screen and have to kill app.
Seems to be Nvidia driver issue with Nvida's beta set. They 181.20 works fine but degraded video.
I noticed that Win 7 dxdiag shows directx11. Nvidia 181.20 shows driectx 10.
@jak42: I have the exact same problem, but I have an ATI HD4850 installed, so I don't think that it's a driver problem. It was running for me for a few weeks (perfectly too!) and then decided not to load last night. In between I did notice a few things: 1) I installed a Logitec webcam; 2) installed Nero (stupid me!); 3) Windows Defender is now active although I didn't activate it; and 4) I have had a problem with IE8, in which I can't open links from an open browser window, which I tried to eliminate by lowering the security settings, and it worked for a while, but then broke itself again after restarting.
I will check tonight if I can get it to run, and let you know how.
Servus, Charlie
just update to patch 1.2 and everything should work (for me it works)
Good Luck
I haven't played Call of Duty in so long. I used to be pretty good at it. I played COD1, COD2, COD3 and I have COD4 but never played it. I haven't tried any of them on Windows 7 yet. They used to play on my old computer with 2.5Ghz, 1 MB RAM and fast ATI Radeon with 256 MB memory. My new computer is a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop with a funky Intel video chipset. I doubt it would run on it.![]()
