Usually there are specs listed on the site for the game giving you recommended hardware. What card and game do you have?

The minimum and recomended requirements are a good start, but the best possible route I can think is to just try the game. Look for a demo and install it, try the game and see how well does it run, and most important if you really like the game .

If you have doubts on your computer capabilities, I wouldn't buy anything before trying. Even if you bought something you can't run, you can still keep the game and enjoy it at a later time, when you happen to upgrade your hardware, the game installer will be still there waiting for you.

I think the link above is the same as this one but just in case it isn't... but Vette, I am hoping you are looking to play online game mostly as your system and video card a bit dated. I mean, mine is also dated but not as dated as yours... not trying to snob you or anything, on the contrary, is like the opposite.

What to look for in a card. Like a game might recommend a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 (2GB but what if I want something from a different manufacturer how do I know if it's better or worse ?
