Discord Will Unsupport Windows 7,8 and 8.1 in March 15th 2024

    Good Evening
I know this shouldn't be in the general Section but i just wanted to talk about it

The Source Here ---> Just a moment... (it says just a moment but its the official support website for discord)

As of March 15th, 2024, Discord will no longer be supported on Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 8.1.
This change is in line with both Chromium’s deprecation policy as well as Microsoft’s end of support for Windows 7 ESU and Windows 8.1 extended support on January 10, 2024

This is a good example of why it makes sense to use windows 7 only for those things you need it for, and another system for more up-to-date uses. For example, I use W7 for my music composition. but I keep it offline, not even physically connected to the internet. Everything works as it should, and will do so indefinitely, since there are no updates, either to the system or to my software. My music system is thus secure, stable and does what I need it to do.

For everything else, I use Linux. not just on another drive but on another computer. One could also use a Mac, Windows 10 or 11, etc. But Macs are way over-priced for most of us, and Ws.10-11 are for many of us too intrusive and exploitative. Making Linux the best alternative.

Not really a big surprise considering Windows 7 itself has been deprecated an "unsupported", but anyway don't changes pretty much anything in relation to use the service. The client not updating in itself is not a problem at all (just stick with the last stable, working version), unless Discord decides to artificially block them.
Then again, you can just use the much better web version and avoid the pain. Websites cannot deprecate OSs.

As always, support from the vendor means abolutely nothing. The programs in themselves will just keep running exactly as before.

Funny thing is that the news seems more related to a Google's move to deprecate Chrome on Win7 rather than a Discord decision.

What a rip-off that so many programs are based on chromium, although in the end it just seems like fake news to me, like steam, which still updates regularly today without any problems. I guess they send the warning simply to wash their hands of it.
