    Steam versions that still work

Tracking steam versions that still work on 7, lock down steam.cfg because you might not get back. I am going to test this in vm and report here which versions still work. With a grain of salt because i might not update and just lock into this version. Feel free to report your findings.

As of now the latest version is 1718904662

That should be the last version i am pretty sure and future versions won't install through updates. We will only know when the next release comes. But it could mean that the thread becomes redundant.

Who knows company say things all the time and ppl manage to produce outcome that don't line up.

Latest version in this moment still technically works. It just takes long time to launch. I remember we can prevent it by disabling some of option in interface setting.

Hardware Acceleration can slow down loading of the client on systems that cannot do hardware acceleration properly. Past that i am not aware of the client loading slowly on Windows 7.

I checked version 1730853000 client that built on Nov 8th is launchable on 7. I observed error that talking about OS version once during update process, but it somewhat launched.

Edit: I done those update for other two windows 7 systems and they didn't show error. It was might steam.cfg caused error or latest beta version will REALLY drop compatibility for seven.

Seems that version is real final version for Win7. I saw patchnote that released Dec 3rd but checking update shows it is up-to-date version.

Ok thanks for the new info i will test 1730853000

    - - - Updated - - -

After testing i cannot even get 1718904662 to update to 1730853000, this will mean the only way to try would be to fresh install the entire application. I think this is dicey as eventually it will mean the user gets caught out.

it would probably be wise to backup that directory before you remove it if you get similar results. Even just a simple copy and past of the directory to a new location like a zip archive or something while you test install the newer version would suffice. Otherwise in the future Steam installer may not install and there is no way to select old version as an old exe will try and contact home and download the new version or simply will just not work if it to old.

I tried several possibilities. Current version for latest Windows is 1733265492, which built on Dec 3rd. And I tried fresh install on Win7 pc and it says it won't work on this version of Windows. So it is first version that won't work on Win7. And I also replaced steam.exe took from Win11 laptop and ran it. And it gave me 1730853000 for some reason. So I can confirm it is real final version for Windows 7.

You may need to remove steam.cfg for when you trying update, by the way.
