I think the only fix is to run the DOS version through DOSbox. Even gog.com sells it that way which is a sign the Windows port can't reliably run in 7.

    SimCity 2000? Special Edition for download $5.99 - GOG.com

The only other option to run the Windows version is to use a PC running XP.
Few months ago Origin gave Sims City 2K SE for free (it was on the house).I've checked it out but can't remember does it run in DOSBox (but I think it does).

I stumbled across this thread using Google, because I was having the same issue as described here, i.e. Simcity 2000 crashes when loading / saving games on Windows 7.

I have created a patch and thought why not share it... The patch can be found in the attachment.

I have created a patch for this problem. It can be found at http://www.crazycasta.net/classic_games/SIMCITY.patch. The patch tool can be found at .tSCc. // PC (dynacore).
Hi, SimCity 2000 Urban Renewal Kit from (SC 2K Special Edition) doesn't work on Windows 10 x64. I've seen other posts mentioning SCURK working on Vista 64-bit and 32-bit and earlier Windows OSs. Anyone know the fix? Or does anyone have it working? Thx!

Checked the folder. Not the issue... the game crashes the second you click on either save or load. No dialog popup, just an instant shutdown.
I have a similar issue when running Streets of SimCity in w95 compatibilty mode.
I have the game in c:/Games to keep it as close to the root of the drive and so I can disable read-only mode.

Just have to post here and say with Sim City 2000 there was always an issue with water pipes. I used Sim City 4 and it was much better. Not sure if pumps near water in Sim City 4 have a better effect or not like 2000.

If you have pro you can install XP mode.

This thread is old so I've mostly forgotten about it. As I opted to buy a second PC several years ago with XP installed I just run the game on that. It wasn't worth trying to get it operating on W7, overall I found that PC handles certain older games far better than trying to use DOSbox or other workarounds on 7- especially as it's 32-bit XP so it'll support the 16-bit programs that 64-bit Windows refuses to load.

Can someone make a "load and save patch" for the German Simcity.exe?

Worked it out with the HxD editor.
