Permissions are set to "allow" for all except "full control" and "special permissions".

There is no "save" folder specific, but all cities are kept in \SC2K\Cities

I can load a scenario from the initial menu. Those map files are kept in a separate folder. However, clicking either SAVE or LOAD causes the game to close. No errors shown in event viewer.

Yeah, I'm on Win7 Ultimate 32-bit here and I'm having the same problem. Here's the event viewer log:

My copy is the Simcity 2000 Special Edition. This is certainly a perplexing issue. I've tried even running the installer as administrator. Still no luck. Also, I have UAC turned off anyway its just my preference to have it off. I'd love to be able to save my city again.

The only solution found online so far is to run the DOS version of the game through DOSbox.

I still can't get this game to run and DOSbox isn't fulfilling my needs. I found this supposedly detailing how to remove the read-only attribute for the file-

My SimCity 2000 Special Edition kicks me out whenever I save or load.

The problem is, the method described isn't doing anything. The attrib function through CMD does squat to the folder attributes. They're still read-only.

Why not virtualize Windows 98? Your specs are OK, the CPU is a bit slow, but it will definitely work.

    Simcity 2000 on Windows 7

I stumbled across this thread using Google, because I was having the same issue as described here, i.e. Simcity 2000 crashes when loading / saving games on Windows 7.

I have created a patch and thought why not share it... The patch can be found in the attachment.

That's what I'd do, or with XP. Either one should be fine.

I have created a patch for this problem. It can be found at http://www.crazycasta.net/classic_games/SIMCITY.patch. The patch tool can be found at .tSCc. // PC (dynacore). To use the patch, put both the patch tool and the SIMCITY.patch file in the SC2K directory, open a command prompt at that directory and run:

    bspatch SIMCITY.exe SIMCITY_PATCHED.exe SIMCITY.patch

The technical details if anyone is interested is that I added a tiny bit of assembly to disable the OFN_EXPLORER and OFN_ENABLEHOOK flags from the OPENFILENAME structure before the GetOpenFileNameA/GetSaveFileNameA calls.

I just came across this thread and wanted to thank CrazyCasta for his/her efforts and ask what specific patch tool we are to download from .tSCc. // PC (dynacore)?

I assumed you could just telepathically read my mind . Sorry, the direct link for the tool is http://sites.inka.de/tesla/download/bsdiff4.3-win32.zip . Which is the link that says: Zipped Win32-Executables (May 2007) size: 73.20 KB
