Non-widescreen games used to work with side bars...

...but now all my old games running on Windows 7 play with stretched resolution. My dad was tampering around downloading NVidia control panel and overclocking utilities and whatever, I'm not sure, I wasnt with him when he did but somehow installed something that now my old games (which I LOVED how Windows 7 would automatically put sidebars to prevent the "stretching" look of the games) have just the same stretch look it would do when I would play on XP.

I really want to know if anyone has specifically noticed this. I think its great, but now I lost that beautiful benefit and would like to know if anyone has gotten a way to reverse the effect and get the sidebars again.

I think this is some utility issue, I may have to get 7 to recognize the non-widescreen resolutions and put the sidebars automatically again but dont know how. Any ideas?

You will need to look into the Nvidia control panel.
I don't have an Nvidia card but my ATI card has the option.

Wow, umm, I dont know what I did but I booted up my computer the next day and started up Starcraft and now I got the sidebars again. :) I'm happy now. Must have been the fumbling around with the Nvidia control panel, I dont quite remember what I changed but it did the trick. Thanks for the help :)

install 185.85 or 186.16 nvidia drivers, the 195.x versions break nvidia scaling.

after installation in the control panel choose 'scaling with fixed aspect ratio' which will get the black bars back.

    Put in Windows Mode.
Get a no-border for the game window.
Clear you desktop and get a black wallpaper.

I think it's my imagination, but I'm watching the same problem again and again and again in this forum...

Yeah, thanks for the help I think I did choose the 'scaling with fixed aspect ratio' option on the control panel, and it did the trick. I got the sidebars back. :)

I don't know what happened with that Permalink... maybe a forum error?
Here is it again: how can I maintain aspect ratio playing fullscreen?

EDIT: This forum is magic. It's now working without using the hyperlink button! xD
