Start by updating all your drivers using the guide in my sig. Also, make sure Steam is updated.

Have you tried launching the ME exe as "Run As Admin?

    Or you may try:
Exit out of steam app completely, and start steam with "run as admin" and try launching ME.

    Quote From Steam:

    * MICROSOFT VISTA USERS: Launching “Mass Effect” from Steam requires the setting “Run as Administrator”. If the User Account Control feature of Windows Vista is enabled, launching “Mass Effect” from Steam will result in failure. For users with User Account Control enabled, launch Steam using the “Run as Administrator” option or launch from the windows shortcut.

This says vista, but would quite likely apply to 7 as well.

Sloppy Steam as usual. They can't program an app properly with Vista/7's new architecture? No wonder I avoid this useless software.

Steam is fully updated, did that at the beginning. Tried running it as Admin and updated drivers, still having problem after each.

Got it to work by running it in compatibility mode set to Vista[service pack 3].

Smoothly? Your system specs are pretty low.

There must be something different about the Steam versions. I would love to know what TBH.

I have ME as well, although mine are the actuall DVD, and mine runs perfectly fine without having to do anything.

    Curious what STEAM does differently.
