Quick..the boss is coming...TAB-OUT........Oh, to late
Quick..the boss is coming...TAB-OUT........Oh, to late
after reading the replies to this thread, i HAD to register and give my two cents
THIS GUY HAS A PERFECTLY VALID POINT!!!!! for chrissakes
using vsync does increase your response time just enough to make it very annoying for people who notice that sort of thing. i've heard arguments on both sides, but for the most part, most serious hard-core twitch minded gamers prefer to have vsync turned off
and he's not trying to play the game in a tiny window either. tf2 allows you to run windowed mode at max resolution with no border....which basically means that it looks exactly the same as fullscreen
the only difference is that the alt-tabbing problem is completely fixed
now this WOULD be a godsend, if it weren't for the fact that apparently aero forces vsync to be turned on, adding that annoying little input lag
being a "pro-gamer" has nothing to do with it
the op simply wants the benefits of being able to use alt-tab, in faux full-screen, without the annoyances of the v-sync related input lag
it pisses me off that no-one took this person seriously.
I just read this..so decided to test something.
I loaded up Warcraft, which I play windowed all the time - with Vsync and Triple Buffering enabled...I kept it windowed and turned off v-sync, and my frames shot over 100fps.
It's not Aero thats forcing V-sync in windowed mode - it would have done it for me. Looks like you should be directing this towards Valve if TF2 is your issue.
find hl2.exe in teh teamfortress 2 folder (i'm assuming this works for other games as well)
right-click the shortcut to the game you want to run (in this case hl2.exe) and select properties. There go to compatibility and check "Disable Desktop Composition"
works
shuts down aero only as long as tf2 is running
true enough, except that full-screen mode makes alt-tabbing a very tedious and nasty process
it might look and perform the same as full-screen (which is indeed the point), but keeping it in a borderless window allows you to alt-tab with no issues
I hate to get in the middle of someone's cheerios but, if you are a pro gamer, why would you want to alt tab out of a game and why is it so important to do so at lightning speeds if you are, indeed, getting out of the game?
heh. i am by no means a pro-gamer (what does that even mean anyway), but sometimes you just gotto alt-tab
whether it's to check who's talking in 'vent'
or see an aim window while you're waiting to respawn
i dunno
it is, however, kinda ****ty how bunked alt-tabbing is in tf2 fullscreen by default. i have no idea why it mucks so much stuff up.
