It wouldn't install from the DVD. You have to install it manually. Invoke a command prompt and type

    steam.exe -install E:

That assumes that E: is the DVD drive on your system. Adjust as needed. Of course you need to be in the directory that steam.exe is in or include a fully qualified filename.

BTW, Steam.exe did install from the DVD autorun. If it doesn't, install it by running setup.exe from the DVD. It will error out, but Steam will be installed and then you can manually install the Game.

It works, but keep the win7 default drivers with nVidia cards, otherwise, it's really choppy.

The 185 version of the Nvidia drivers breaks ETW, at least on build 7000. I haven't tried the 7100 build, yet. I'm using the previous drivers, version 181 I believe, just fine.

Yeah, it's not better with the 7100 build. I tried them and I returned to the defaults win7 drivers.

Rare to see Nvidia go backwards on drivers. I guess I will be sticking with the 181's, since they seem to be working for me, until newer ones come out.

I think it's more the fact that E:TW is a bit buggy

I installed without a problem from the store bought disc version of the Special Forces Edition.

In fact the game not only runs great, but on lower settings then I used before the game looks remarkably stunning in comparison, and I am noticing little details both on the campaign map and in battle that I never had before.

    Specs:

    Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz
    Nvidia Ge Force 8600 GT
    4 GB Ram (DDR3)

    EDIT

I am using an nvidia 64 bit driver for windows vista, the auto installed drivers from 7 seem to give me some problems with other games, so I went back to the old driver from the disc that came with the video card, no problems so far.

I installed this on my computer, it gets stuck at the empire and total war logo screen then it just pauses then crashes. I'm using windows 7 build 7264 32bit.

Did it automatically install updates for the game yet?

I know that was a major bug issue they were said to have fixed with a patch a few months back.

Make sure all your video drivers are current, and that you have at least the minimum hardware requirements for the game to run.

    Whats your computer setup/specifications?

i've not had any problems in any of the win7 versions i've tried it on.

lots of people had lots of problems earlier on, but recent patches took care of most of the issues.
