For 2000 you can build a desktop that would make the gaming laptop commit suicide.
and if he is a college student he will want to commit suicide trying to carry a desktop to class. on a side note if that were the situation i'd build a gaming computer and buy a cheap laptop, not netbook cheap but about a 15in budget model.

Agreed. Buy one lappy for class, one desktop for gaming.
