Try updating your DirectX version from here
Then reinstall your graphics card driver using the latest version

I am using AVG AntiVirus. Do you think that could be an issue?
    Thanks,

    it worked!
    For everyone else:
    Patched 1.69
Was using nwn.exe, but switched to nwnmain.exe with compatibility Windows XP SP3, run as administrator!

Great news, going to spend hours and hours gaming.
    Thanks!

Damn it, it worked once, and never again!
Did the same thing, and nothing happened. Any clues?
But it did work once, that is a good sign! jeje

i have to wonder if it is related to your system specs, i have nwn platinum dvd (and nwn 2) and never have had any problems with it. when i installed nwn 1 on vista i used to get a black screen after the menu, but i could just blind click my way into the game and it was fine after that.

Mine is working, but my frame rates are in the 20-30 fps range with "~ trace fps". Is this all I should expect. Do ATI cards work better with NWN?

I have the latest WHQL drivers for my card (258.96).

It just seems that on a game dating back to when a 1GHz Pentium 3 and Geforce 2 were bleeding edge it should be flying today.

    Same Problems

I just purchased Neverwinter Nights Diamond and installed it. Everything went smoothly, it's patched at 1.69

My laptop is an Asus G73jh system running Windows 7 Ultimate x64. Latest drivers including DirectX installed.

I run the program, screen comes up, I hit play, screen goes away, a new one pops up with the Neverwinter Nights logo, and then game crashes.

    Same here

I have the same issues and it is NOT anything to do with performance.
I have a 3.3Ghz 6-core processor, 16Gbs of ram, and a firepro 5800 midrange- high end 3d workstation card. I am turning into a zombie over this
