    Crazy Oblivion Problem

    Alright.. Im new to the forums.. and I have read the other oblivion threads. I will try to make sense of this and I hope at least 1 person understands my problem. Im not good with this computer lingo but I'll try.

    First problem was Oblivion wasnt working on my computer I bought. Windows 7 obviously. Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_gdr.100226-1909)
    I read some solutions online and went to start menu searched oblivion.. i got two.. oblivion and oblivion elder scrolls.. when i go to properties on elder scrolls it doesnt give me the compatibility tab. So i hit properties on the other one. Now.. I tried alot of things on it.. the only thing that worked was disable desktop composition. Boom it worked.. score. ( PS: My initial problem was i would play game at the menu then it would boot me out saying it found a problem and my screen would go black.

    Ok, now I bought a xbox PC controller to play with it cause I am aware of the setup better. When i try and use it i have no right joystick and certain buttons wouldnt work. Trust me , I tried everthing in game to fix this problem. So what I did was download the Pinicale Game Profiler cause i read in other forums that that will fix the problem. Now, I set that all up.. but when it picks the oblivion and u try to start the game from the game profiler menus.. cause thats what u have to do.. im back to square one.. screen goes blank.. and it kicks me out saying has a problem and searching for solutions and all that bull. So wtf ? There are more than one launchers on my oblivion. I am assuming that when I attached the game to the game profiler.. it picked one of those launcher icons that dont have the compatability options like i stated earlier. Thats my theory.. but all that work and for nothing.. (Simple answer? go buy different controller right?) Is there a different answer that doesnt require me going out to buy another conrtoller? I swear.. this stuff only happens to me.
    Sorry for the short novel.. lol.. thank you for anyhelp or comments lol heres some of my comp stats..

    this might not fix your problem but try deleting your oblivion settings that are located in
    My Documents > My Games > Oblivion

    and delete all the .ini files (there should be 3) and keep the game saves folder
    MAKE SURE YOU DONT RUN OBLIVION ON MORE THAN 1 MONITOR
    hope this fixes the problem! otherwise you ither need to buy a new controller or its just that the game might not support it.

    hope this helped a bit :)

    yeah it must be the profiler also i suggest you check games for windows live settings and see if there might be an integrated option since it is a microsoft product. on the other hand i found this that might help also

    Input Problems
    Keyboard input problems could be the result of a control peripheral. Editting the Oblivion.ini may correct this issue. The Oblivion.ini file is located in the My Documents\My Games\Oblivion directory. In the [Controls] section, change the “bUse Joystick=1” setting to “bUse Joystick=0” or simply disconnect the peripheral. Make sure the settings are saved. Note, changes to the Oblivion.ini file will not be saved if Oblivion in running when the changes are made.

    from:The Elder Scrolls
    try modding your .ini files!

    -Game Pad Functionality

    Although the PC version of Oblivion handles best when played with a keyboard and mouse, it is possible to play the game with an assortment of game pads as well. Due to the variance in these game pads, it may be necessary to make a few changes to the Oblivion.ini file located in My Documents\My Games\Oblivion. Below is a list of the settings that can be changed to make a Xbox 360 controller attached to a PC, function better with Oblivion. It should be noted however, that because the PC version of the game was optimized to play with a keyboard and mouse, the experience will NOT be the same, as using a 360 controller on the Xbox 360 version of the game. Additionally, these settings can be applied to other game pads, but the values represented may need to be tweaked further. Finally, the mapping of the buttons will need to be determined when entering the game, and can be changed in Options - Controls, from the Main Menu - Do NOT map the directional controls (Forward, Backward, Left, Right), as this will overwrite certain changes made in the Oblivion.ini file.

    These are the default settings in the Oblivion.ini:
    ;X = 1, Y = 2, Z = 3, XRot = 4, YRot = 5, ZRot = 6

    iJoystickMoveFrontBack=2
    iJoystickMoveLeftRight=1
    fJoystickMoveFBMult=1.0000
    fJoystickMoveLRMult=1.0000
    iJoystickLookUpDown=6
    iJoystickLookLeftRight=3
    fJoystickLookUDMult=0.0020
    fJoystickLookLRMult=0.0020

    Change to these values to get better functionality from a 360 game pad connected to a PC.
    ;X = 1, Y = 2, Z = 3, XRot = 4, YRot = 5, ZRot = 6
    iJoystickMoveFrontBack=2
    iJoystickMoveLeftRight=1
    fJoystickMoveFBMult=2.0000
    fJoystickMoveLRMult=2.0000
    iJoystickLookUpDown=5
    iJoystickLookLeftRight=4
    fJoystickLookUDMult=0.7500
    fJoystickLookLRMult=0.7500

    Make sure the settings are saved. Note, changes to the Oblivion.ini file will not be saved if Oblivion is running when the changes are made.

    now if your'e controller isint detected for some reason.... then im not sure what you should do. probably a driver related issue.

    My game loads on my Windows 7 system, but when I try to use the keyboard it gives me special characters (#,$,!, etc.) or numbers when I am pushing letter keys when I try to enter a character name. Also the standard W,S,A,D keys don't move the character. I tried going into options and setting the keys, but the game will not allow me to assign those keys.
