    sygnus21, you got any ideas?

I still stand by my statement and say it's not a "cable driver" Issue. It's either a faulty cable or the Controller itself needs drivers.

C1 AND C2 will work with A1 with no problems on my PC, assuming the adapter's drivers are installed(they are). I can swap them just fine.

C1 AND C2 both worked fine with A2 on my Windows XP computer(which I no longer have).

Neither C1 nor C2 will work with A2 on my Windows 7 PC. I've tried with and without A1 plugged in.

C1 will work with A2 on my Gamecube just fine. C2 does not, I don't know why aside from some hardware incompatibility.
    C1 - Dual Shock type PS1
C2 - Nuby Street Fighter fighting game PS2 controller

You say both these controllers work with the single port Radio Shack cable (A1) on your PC (W7 I presume?)

But neither Controller works with the multiport Brand X (A2), but did work under XP? OK, do you have access to any XP machine? Maybe you could see if the cable still works there?

Also, if you’re so sure that that cable requires a driver, try this on an XP machine – connect the multiport cable to the XP machine without the controller attached and notice any request for drivers via device manager. Then do the same with either controller attached to the cable.

If no driver was requested with only cable hooked up, but one was requested the controller hooked up, it’s the controller that needs the driver, not the cable!

Of course this test assumes that the cable is in good working order and can actually be done on any PC running Windows.

At any rate I'll bet a pretty good penny that if a driver request shows up, it'll be associated with the game pad. I could be wrong, I don't think so, but...

My old XP computer is gone. It did NOT ask for any drivers for either controller with the multi plug.

This computer recogizes the device, it gives me the sound when it's plugged in or removed but neither controller works.

Is there any chance I could replace the cord in C2 with a USB cable and bypass the adapter entirely? The controller is otherwise useless to me. I know I could do that with a spare Sega Saturn controller I own or order a Saturn USB pad, but this has an extra button the Saturn controllers don't use.

I suppose you could, but that would require some technical know-how on your part - schematics, disassembly, soldering. It would probably be easier to just get one with a USB cable.

Actually, it's be cheaper(perhaps not EASIER) to buy a cheap original Xbox controller and solder a USB connector to it instead. I can use the fighting pad for the platform 2D stuff and the Xbox controller for the games that play better with analog sticks.

My google research says you can adapt a PS2 controller to Parallel but this PC has no parallel or serial ports(the joys of buying a new model). I can get the Xbox controller and USB cable for $12.

If you're willing to put in the time and effort for this little project, more power to ya! I'd be interested to see your results :) I'd start a new thread on that though. Good luck!

    Again, I don't think it's worth it, but that's me :)
