    PLEASE HELP!!!master of orion 2 windows 7

Master of Orion 2 is a win95/dos game.

I got it to work on XP/Vista, but not on 7

I also know that there are options to get it to work, but i cant even get it to install. When the autorun comes up, i click install game, the screen disappears and nothing happens.

This is like my favorite game, and would love to get it to work for some retro gaming.

    PLEASE HELP!

    Hi jrim86,

Could you please fill out your system specs? It will be a lot easier for us to help you that way. At the top of any page on this website, click 'User CP', then on the left hand side click 'Edit System Spec'. Let us know when you have that all filled out as best you can. The more information the better.

    Cheers,

Here is a post by Lord_Xorn I have tried it and it works witn win 7 64 bit.

But first install MOO2 on a computer were it runs and copy the entire micropose directory to the program files (x86) directory.

Then copy the dplayx.dll file from the windows\sysWOW64 directory and renamed it dplay.dll and put it back in the sysWOW64 directory (be sure the dplayx.dll file is still there) or if you have the 32 bit version it should be found in the system32 directory (I am guessing, but you will need a dplay.dll)

    Now follow Lord_Xorn/s instructions

Found this great post about getting MOO2 to run in Windows 7, and even with the compatibility enabled it still has a graphics palette problem. The reason is because of Windows explorer, and to fix the problem you need to disable explorer.

I know this can be a little too much for some, there is an easier way.

Simply create a notepad file on your desktop, and paste the following.

(If you have 32-bit version of Windows 7.)

    TASKKILL /F /IM "explorer.exe"
    cd C:\"Program Files"\Microprose\Orion2
    start /w C:\"Program Files"\Microprose\Orion2\Orion95.exe
    start C:\Windows\explorer.exe

(Copy and paste below if you have 64-bit)

    TASKKILL /F /IM "explorer.exe"
    cd C:\"Program Files (x86)"\Microprose\Orion2
    start /w C:\"Program Files (x86)"\Microprose\Orion2\Orion95.exe
    start C:\Windows\explorer.exe

Make sure you rename the text file to Moo2.bat, then it will launch Moo2 and disable explorer. Moo2 plays perfectly fine this way, even without any of the compatibility enabled.

The Batch file will also restore your explorer when you exit the game.

    Hope this helps.

One word of caution, when you exit be sure you click OK in the text box Thanks for playing Master of Orion II. If you close the bat file box without clicking the OK first, then explore will not relaunch and you may be forced to do a hard shut down.

It did . Cleaning out old CDs, came upon Moo2. Installed in on Win7. Worked but with palette issues. Found this note. Worked like a champ. I do see some additional detail, at least in the opening credits, when compatibility is set to win 98/me and all the boxes below it are checked.

    Thanks
