    Question on Direct X...

Windows 7 uses DX11, according to the dxdiag. Now, when i play F.E.AR i need a d3dx9_27.dll file(or something), well, i can get the game working if i just put that specific file in the F.E.A.R folder but other games need other d3d files as well.

These seem to be directx 9 files, so directx 11 is not backwards compatible?

Will installing the latest dx9 mess things up? Is dx 10 backwards compatible? Should i just install the latest dx10?

Probably some simple questions thanks for reading :)

i would just install direct x from Microsoft's website, it installs them to the windows folder so you dont have to copy files. also about teh backward compat, i think it is as the installer installs every version of directx to the most recent one.

Direct X should be backwards compatible and the web installer worked fine for me but i only had a 5MB update to add to the last DirectX from November.

Sorry my mistake, i was all up to date so the web installer would not install due to a newer version found. So many windows 7 installs i completely forgot i had applied the march update.
