Standard Windows Games Don't Work

I recently upgraded from Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit to Windows 7 Pro 6
-bit. I discovered that my games (chess, solitaire, hearts, etc.) didn't make the transfer to my Start menu, but they are still on my computer. I have been trying to figure out how to get them back.

I tried to turn them on via the control panel, but I get "An error has occurred. Not all of the features were successfully changed." I have tried this numerous times on different fashions - even safe mode - with no affect.

I tried to run sfc as I found that it could help. When it gets to 14% complete, I get "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation."

I know that a few games isn't worth the hassle, but I would greatly appreciate any help someone might have to offer. Thank you so much!

You couldn't have gone from Vista 32-bit to 7 64-bit. You can only go from 32 to 32 or 64 to 64 through an upgrade. But anyways, what you're supposed to do is:

1. Click the Start button, click Control Panel, click Programs, click Programs and Features and then click Turn Windows features on or off.

2. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

3. Select the Games check box and then click OK.

That being said, you should really have performed a clean installation. All of your old Windows Vista files are located in C:\windows.old. Most people, including myself, recommend that you perform a clean installation rather than upgrade, since upgrading leads to a lot of problems. Thank you for your quick response.

I did actually manage to go from Vista 32-bit to 7 64 bit using some software work-arounds, however it has caused a few problems - hence the games issue.

I did try to activate the games through the control panel, but it did not work. It always comes up with the error I mentioned in my first post.

Thank you for the link for the clean install. I have managed to accumulate quite a few files, so I will have to think it over before I redo my system again.
