Oddworld : Abes Oddysee - Windows 7 Troubles,

    Hey,

A friend of mine is having problems running Abes Oddysee on her W7 system, ive done everything within my own power to help but its not done anything (The game keeps coming up with that it stopped working, and yes ive suggested to change the compatability but to no avail) i also have 7 and it runs fine over here, she has a 64-bit system but would that effect the use of it? i dont know but if someone could help, it'd be much obliged. :)

what version of Windows 7 does your friend have? if its Professional or Ultimate then she can try it in XP mode.

after doing a quick google on this game, it looks like it came out in 1997, so would have been built for Windows 98 (at a guess) which is a 16 bit OS, unfortunately, 64 bit Windows won't run 16 bit programs, again XP mode gets around this, or if your friend has a (legal) copy of XP lying around then she can run it in a VM

If you mean XP Mode asin the compatability mode, ive told her to try those but it didnt work, but i dont think she'll understand how to set up a VM, i could try but i doubt she'd want to go that far to play it, thanks anyway ^_^

I meant XP mode as in the MS provided XP VM that you get free with Professional and Ultimate, compatibility mode just tells the program that it is XP when it isn't, XP mode is actually an XP VM, obviously as you said its too much hassle just for one game, but as far as i can see its the only solution, unless she downgraded to 32 bit of course, sorry I couldnt be more help

hello, I've also had the same problem but I finally made it somehow, thanks to one fellow who spotted that if you have a "Fn" (Function) button on your computer or laptop and press it the game works properly, and I tried many things with it and finally got it! if you have a "Fn" button than you just have to press it and (for me it's there, I don't know if you have the same) change the computer mode from "Normal" to "Speed mode" (for me it's under F8), there is an icon with a running men. you can try somehow different to make it, but if you change the computer mode to "Speed mode" than you can play it, at least for me it works :)
