I run RTM x64 and CoD 4 1.0 works just fine in either single- and multipayer. Did you try to run the iw3so.exe directly from your CoD folder?

Did anyone have problem with "DirectX encountered critical error"? From what I have googled its not exactly Windows 7 problem but it works perfectly fine under WinXP and doesn't under Win7, so I thought it might be somehow related.

    Just my luck...

EDIT: Solved it by reverting to older graphics drivers, as described here: Left 4 Dead DirectX crash

i can play cod4 now. actually i finished the game but i had a problem. when i played with game preferred resolutions it frozen. and i had to set to 800x600. even with 800x600 it froze at the crowded scenes but it did well generally. my question is the freezing thing related with windows 7?

    my system is:

    Quadcore q6600
    3gb ram
    radeon hd 3400 512mb

    any idea?

I doubt it, sounds more like something to do with your Hardware setup, otherwise other people would be asking about it.

I'd guess its the display drivers. First i used the Ati Catalyst 8.7 drivers since they were the onle ones that worked for me, then switched to the ones from windows, since they are fixed catalyst 9.3 display drivers. Sometimes i suddenly get a black screen, and after a few seconds it shows the desktop and a message pops up saying "display drivers stopped responding". This happened in a game once and the game froze. I hardly doubt it has anything to do with the game itself.

This happened to me on XP i ended up creating a new account (On COD4) and starting again and that seemed to work
but if you dont wanna throw away your hard earned levels
you can download XFIRE and access the servers that way

    EDIT:
you just have to plug in a mic and it works
its a stupid problem that also happened in vista
    Good luck!
