Call of duty 4 (COD4) on windows seven

Well, another epic thread about it :)
If anybody finds a WORKING (tested for hours) solution to make it work on windows 7 (build 7100), post it here.
Anyway, I don't think it will be possible to make pb works until eb release a patch on its side.

But I suggest a workaround. If we can't make punkbuster work, we still can play atm WITHOUT IT, on pb servers :)
You need to uninstall punkbuster completely (registry, system32 files, appdata,etc..) but the pb game folder (needed to rejoin a pb server - as the game checks if you got it- ) then you will be able to run the game and play as long as you wish without any kick. The console will get crazy, with "error loading" annoying console lines, but this could be surely fix by tweaking the game cvars. (As example, use /seta con_gameMsgWindow1LineCount "0" to remove the lines with your cfg in read only)

I need your help to "completely uninstall pb", because I didnt manage too (got kicked for various reasons cause registry/files check remained), the only way working for me is a clean windows reinstallation, with keeping cod4 game folder, and pb subfolder. There is surely a way to remove all registry entries to allow the same behaviour as a clean win7 install, I let you search for it :)

This worked with early windows betas, and may aswell work for other games.
I will update my post with your findings if you care to seek

try running this file to uninstall the punkbuster services C:\Windows\SysWOW64\pbsvc.exe
that should get rid of punkbuster, just make sure you delete the appdata files too.

Also just wondering if you uninstall pb wouldn't all the games running pb not work?

Yes the other games running pb won't work since pb services are not installed except if the cod4 exploit work for them too
Btw, I tried removing evenbalance occurencies in registry, uninstalling with pbsvc and deleting pb files, but it didn't work , the game still looks for pnkbstra file when entering a pb server.
We have to find the right registry entries and remove them.

okay, I uninstalled the services, I deleted the folders in appdata, I deleted the pbfiles in the prefech folder, I removed every pnkbstra and b.exes in syswow64.
I ran cod 4 connect to server got tons of pb not loaded, then it finally kicked me for api function. checked my services and pba was running. I think cod4 reinstalls punkbuster

1337, try with a clean install of windows :)

    I think the solution is
-use a clean windows 7 installation
-Try my method, if it works :
    -try backing up you registry,
-install pbsvc with some registry modification check software,
-then find out which files/reg keys are needed to make the checks
-if any problem, restore clean registry

    seta con_gameMsgWindow0FadeInTime "0"
    seta con_gameMsgWindow0FadeOutTime "0.01"
    seta con_gameMsgWindow0Filter "gamenotify obituary"
    seta con_gameMsgWindow0LineCount "1"
    seta con_gameMsgWindow0MsgTime "0"
    seta con_gameMsgWindow0ScrollTime "0"
    seta con_gameMsgWindow0SplitscreenScale "0"

You won't get any error message, the only downside is you won't see the kills on the left of the screens.

I has installed yesterday the 7100 build of windows 7 and of course, call of duty 4 with no punkbuter... I get no problem and I have already played a few hours on non-punkbuster servers... It must bee your copy of Call of duty or Punkbuster

Punkbuster problem with COD4 seems to be resolved now with all the servers I tried today, only thing that I needed to do was update punkbuster.
