Slow game performance

if you are gamers and you have many old games, i'd say 32 :)

yes 64 can use more than 4gb Ram. However sometimes you'll face compatibility issue with old game in windows 64 bit :)

The first thing you're going to want to do is figure out what hardware you actually own? You could have an ancient single core P4, but since Windows is reporting 2 cpu's, you have the newer (relative) P4 dual core:

If you do indeed only have a single core, then you're really going to have to tell me how you managed to fit it onto that motherboard? Scotch, or duct tape? A socket 478 won't fit on an LGA 775 board.

Either way, you're a gamer trying to run Bad Company at 1920x1080, which given your hardware is an unrealistic expectation; you can't: Battlefield: Bad Company 2 GPU Performance In-depth > 1920x1200 – High/Medium/Low - TechSpot These benchmarks were done prior to R7 (which gave most users a 20% performance hit), and they were done with a 3.7GHz i7. Since Bad Company is so cpu intense, 10 fps, at 1920, even on all low, is just about what I'd expect from that rig.

It's inexplicable how Afterburner is reporting that you have a 5670? Somewhere, at some point, someone must have downloaded ATI drivers onto that machine. There's really no other explanation... and it also might explain why you're having so many issues now (driver conflicts, mild driver conflicts, but still...).

Uninstall your nVidia drivers. Make sure there's no ATI software to uninstall; if there is, uninstall it (I know you already did, but double check just to make sure). Reboot into safe mode again and run driver sweeper. Check both nvidia and ati. Reboot back into safe mode and run CCleaner: CCleaner - Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download ( watch the install so you don't install the toolbars and other annoying stuff). Normally you would not have to run CCleaner, but things are so jacked that we want to be sure everything is super clean when you install your drivers.

Boot up normally. Install latest drivers.


Then, and this is most important, get Pops to open up that wallet of his. You need a lot more cpu strength if you want to push that 9600 at 1920x1080. Ideally, you'd like to get a stronger card too, but right now, cpu is probably more important (again, refer to the techspot link for BC performance).

I'm sure you'll be playing BF3. It's also going to use Frostbite, so BC2 is just a preview of the performance you can expect.

Thanks archie, i was starting to think that no one was going to answer my question. i think i'll try method #3, it looks like it might be the best option. Before i do this though i think i'm going to by a new CPU, i need one anyway.

I do have an idea as to how i can find out if my CPU is to slow to handle newer games on win7. later on today i'm going to install a really old game like Starcraft, or Unreal Tournament. if i'm still getting bad performance from old games like that then i know my problem isn't my CPU.

no worries..............BEST way to diagnose a cpu bottleneck , use fraps to view your framerates ingame running the game with no antialaising and no aniosotropic filtering then set AA to 4x (for example) and AF to 16x and run the game again , if you see no noticeable drop in fps then your cpu is bottlenecking your gpu

for example look at my rig spec (its out of date now but thats ideal) when i first bought that ati gpu i was running the rig as it is in that spec with a q6600 at 3.4 gig , bad company 2 was running ok but i was very dissapointed with the cards perf , after running afterburner ingame display i found that gpu usage was maxing out at 40% , if i upped the AA and AF both to 16x my fps remained pretty much tha same as 4aa 16 af , i now have an i7 clocked at 4 gig and with the same gpu im getting 40-50 fps more in BC2 , thats some bottleneck i know but win 7 seems to make any bottleneck ALOT worse , i realise im also running a new mobo and DDR3 but still 50fps is one hell of a leap

Fraps is a great tool, been using it for a while now. it would be great if i could test it on a newer game like you are saying, but i notice no difference with AA turned off or at 16x, still 10 fps.

Anyway, i just ran Unreal Tournament and with the settings all at max i was getting a constant 60fps. Oh, it was beautiful to not have low frame rates so bad that i can describe it like this, Frame...................................................Frame....................................... .......Frame. i think thats why Bioshock also ran ok, with max settings and gets 30fps. Sense Bioshock is a little old, the requirements were less, especially on the cpu.

With that being said, i think my problem is my "ancient" cpu.
