    $300.00 for a Q6600?! i5 750's are less than $200.00.

Yes, you can install from an upgrade dvd. There are posts how to do it here, when I get back from the market I'll see if I can dig it up.

"Worst case?", obviously, that would be having to re-install your OS, but as I said, that's unlikely, even if you change chipsets from AMD to Intel, because 7 is just amazing about this stuff.

Later on today, i'm going to order a new mobo. i'll be going from an MSI P6N SLI Platinum (650i) to an ASUS P5N-D (750i). Here's a link to the new mobo.

ASUS P5N-D Motherboard - NVIDIA nForce 750i SLI, Socket 775, ATX, Audio, PCI Express 2.0, Gigabit LAN, S/PDIF, USB 2.0, Firewire, Serial ATA, RAID at TigerDirect.com

i looked on ASUS's website, found the mobo and found that my Q9300 is listed as compatible. i might still have to update the BIOS on this new board but i doubt it, you see, and i might be wrong here, i found a mobo & cpu combo on tigerdirect.com that had this ASUS board and my Q9300. why would they sell them both together it will be a head ache to get them to work together? i won't bet on it, but it doesn't make sense to sell them together if their not compatible right out of the box, ya know. the good thing is that i'm not that far into win 7 so i'm fine with reinstalling it if need be. plus i'll be able to do SLI.

in a few hours i will officially be a DIRT broke teenager yet again, so l hope this works.

If I had a problem with FPS randomly I would put it down to spyware, or I would clean my case out and take the GPU out, check it over, and if all fails then backup, and do a fresh install of windows. (:

It works! just like you said Fumz, i just swapped the old mobo for the new one, booted up and it installed drivers. i have the core 2 quad in right now and just ran COD world at war. i had about 8 fps before, now i have 35-40, and i thats with the generic drivers. i still have to install drivers from nvidia and others.

thanks guys, i'll post some more after i get the right drivers installed.

Ok, windows is activated and everything is good to go. I had three virus scans going at once and this quad core never went above 50%! I love this CPU.

Thanks so much everyone, you guys were such a great help. I'll certenly keep this forum in mind I ever need any more window 7 help.

    Thanks
