I just picked this up an have only put in a little time on it, but I'll give you what I've experienced.

While they keep marketing this as an RPG, it plays like a third person shooter. As you level you can apply points to various skills
I didn't need to continue reading as this is all I need to hear to stay away from the game.

I respect you guys liking this Level Up thing but as an Old School Gamer, this is a kick in the nuts for me. I mean, this is a Rated "M" game not a Lego star wars game where you need to keep the kids interested on side missions.

Oh well, I appreciate the reviews as this will save me from getting upset because I threw away 50 bucks.

seems that most of game nowadays are following the theory of leveling, upgrading with additional money or something in exchange for weapon, armor etc

You are right and to me that translates into... Well, we don't want to take time to make a good gameplay game but we'll have killer graphics and side missions to cover the void.

Looking back at games like Far Cry as an example, I didn't quiet like the Superhuman experiments and bosses but, the campaign was like 25 to 30 hours at least. Now a days, you are lucky if they last 10 hours.

Take Splinter Cell: conviction as an example, I am sure some people loved it but, when you can go through a whole campaign in less than 6 hours (in realistic) killing everyone with a gun, well, it just makes my point regarding gameplay and replayability.

Again, it could very well be than I am getting old and don't want to succumb to the dumb down world of flavor of the month game and go out and buy the new flavor, it just pains me that I can not have a weapon ready to go and make time thinking on my next move but solely run to the next level up.

To me alpha protocol looks like "another game", nothing special. And is it just me or do the graphics look like they came from 2004

Good example for splinter cell. i've played and gamed it and i dont know why the gameplay is very short, the storyline. It's not challenging at all. You can finish it in one night if you want too. It's like most of the game developers nowadays taking lightly on gameplay and focusing too much on graphic.

You know, and that would be fine with me if they were to sell the game for $20.00 bucks but no, they want to bamboozle you into paying the same 50 bucks and the game is possibly half finish since the other half is for whether or not you play it online.

Add this to the dreaded drm problems and you have wasted your money... at least that is my own personal opinion!
