I wonder if they have given you the "broken" edition... when i first got Civ IV the version I had didnt like Vista, luckily the disk came with a patch on it. Sorry i know this doesnt really help, but it might shed some light onto the situation

Yeah, I've read that a fix is to install the main game, patch it and then install the expansions. Unfortunately this installer does the full game & 3 expansions all at once in a 4.4GB download that 7-zip can't open - you have to use the supplied exe file - Gamestop has it for only $10, but it looks as if I'll have to do a refund and just get the hard copy from somewhere

That stinks - looks like I'll have to closely inspect the packaging if GS can't get this installer issue fixed

I say just go to the store and buy a boxed copy. I hardly ever download the game from a website simply because of this reason.

Better off buying boxed versions. With the downloaded type, there's always the chance that the file's corrupted, even if the company will try and force feed you information that their file is fine.

Try running the setup in Windows 2000 compatibility. From what I'm told, Windows 2000 is a pretty good OS.

Ended up getting a refund. Civ 5 comes out in September, so I'm hoping to get 4 in a boxed set on clearance soon anyways... I think this experience will keep me away from direct-2-disk for a while anyways...

Thanks for all the advice.
