Star Wars Forces of Corruption Problem With Multiplayer

I have a new laptop with windows 7 / 64 bit and 6 GB of RAM. I installed Star War Empire at War and it works fine. I installed Forces of Corruption and the RAM patch. Single player works fine but the game always locks up when I try multiplayer on the internet. The game works fine on my old desktop with Windows XP & 512 MB RAM. Star Wars Battlefront II works fine on the new laptop too. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to correct this situation?

Well, Forces of Corruption works fine for me. I'm guessing you have it patched to 1.1? Are you using any compatibility options in the properties menu?

I have Windows 7, 32-Bit with 4 Gigs of RAM, a Ge-Force GTS250, and a Gigabyte motherboard. I don't know why yours won't run in multiplayer, although I don't play FOC online, just singleplayer.

Thanks for the reply. I'm up to date with the patches. I tried my old version. I purchased the Gold version and tried it. I tried the Mike.nl patch. I have tried Vista & XP compatibility options. And I have tried all combinations of these. Nothing works. The single player option works after I installed the RAM patch from Lucasarts. Every time I try multiplayer, the game locks up and needs to be exited via Ctrl-Alt-Delete. I don't understand why this happens with FOC but none of my other online games. FOC is my favorite.

    humm...well that sucks.

Do you use a router? This could be your problem. Maybe some ports are un-opened, but if it's just freezing, that might not be it. Does it do this when you're starting up a multiplayer game, I'm assuming? Does the regular Empire At War do this too, or is it just FoC?

Thanks for the reply. I have a wireless router. I didn't think to try bypassing it and connecting directly to cable. I tried that with the same results ... can play single player but locks up when connecting for multiplayer. It happens when starting multiplayer. EAW connects fine. I compared options in both games and they are all set to the same thing.

I see. Odd stuff. FoC works fine for me in single player. I don't really play the game online, don't really like it online.

    Resolution

I think I targeted the issue with the multiplayer problem, and I am working on a resolution. Seems like the news server where the "chinese text" loads when you first enter multiplayer is causing the issue. I'll try to write a patch if I get lucky soon.

EDIT: The fix is in!!! turns out for whatever reason one of the news server overloads the program. Please add this to your hosts file to resolve the issue.

I was able to connect today. Last night the server crashed. I tried connecting today and the same problem happened but instead of backing out of the game, I got distacted with a TV show. About 10 minutes later I looked at my computer. I was connected and I was in and able to play. I backed out and tried again. The program locked up but after ~5 min I was connected and able to play. I was able to repeat this multiple times. I had waited ~10 min previously (when the problem was first happening ) and it did not allow me to play. I don't understand why it works this way but I'm able to play now. Thanks for your reply. I'm not real computer savvy. Where do I find the host file. My other games usually connect with 10 sec or so. So I'm hoping this will permit a quick connection.

    Hi!

I'm having the same problem, adding 127.0.0.1 host42.hrwebservices.net to the hosts file fixed the issue for EaW, however, im not able to connect inmediatly in FoC, and i have to wait ~5 min. I tried both adding 127.0.0.1 host42.hrwebservices.net and 127.0.0.1 rdr2ps3.ms4.gamespy.com to the hosts file, but still the same
