ag, have you tried running it in compatibility mode? Right Click on the executable icon and select properties. Select compatibility mode to say XP Service Pack2 and try running it again.

BTW I'm running games like HL2, Red Orchestra MOD and Silent Hunter 2, via steam with no problems, on W7, build 7100.

Exactly what I would do. 'Run as Admin' may not hurt, either. It's possibly trying to write some system-level entries into the registry and failing.

Actually ag, running it as Admin is just another checkbox in the properties section. It's as easy as setting the compaibility mode. :)

Ha! Yes, what I meant was that perhaps the game is trying to perform some system-level operation that it cannot do under Windows 7. Allowing to run as 'Admin' may allow it to do what it wants to do.

i think your right, it is doing something in the background when i try to load it but it never gets there.
having said that loading it was a hassle (it was in Vista Too) as it wont auto load or load from the setup icons on the dvd i had to hunt down the setup.exe.
i thought i had done somthing wrong so unistalled it and reinstalled it a couple of times eve tried cutting and pasting from the Vista drive and running it from the Vista drive so far all failed.
i'm keen to the the thing running so will let you know what the out come is in the morning
    many thanks

Some games user a 'loader' type of app. Like something that allows you to chose settings before playing. I'm not familiar with the game but know it's supposed to be a killer flight sim / air combat game. Anyway, if it IS using a loader or something similar, the program itself may not inherit the admin permissions, even if you launch the game using admin. Hope that makes sense. What I would do is look in the game's folder for another .exe, perhaps something the main loader is launching. Often, these 'sub-programs' are called 'game.exe' or something like that. If there is an app like that in the folder, test it to see if it launching the game and running it as admin. Compatibility mode as XP SP2 wouldn't hurt, either.

Also, the option to disable 'Visual Themes' often helps with games. Good luck.
