Welcome to the Seven Forums! iana

With any Steam game installation you first need to set up your user account to log in live to that and allow the download of each game's installtion files to proceed. Once the download and updates for the Steam engine are complete the option for a desktop shortcut is available on the Steam engine's "Games" window for creating a quick launch shortcut.

When going to start up any Steam you first have to log into the new Steam user account you created to then see the game load. In some cases you might have to right click on the shortcut or in the Games window start the game selected in the minimized run mode if problems are seen.

With the 64bit 7 on here Fear 2 runs without problems when simply logging in. You may want to see Direct X 9c installed as some of the titles were out before Vista and 7's release where the lack of that will prevent older titles from running in certain cases while Fear 2 was out last year and Vista DX10 ready.

The main support page Steam has for troubleshooting game crashes should be looked as well. https://support.steampowered.com/kb_...7169-TIAV-5361

For the particular "Exception code: 0xc0000005" error you are seeing reviews the troubleshooting guides seen on the other support page at https://support.steampowered.com/kb_...%3A+0xc0000005

Disabling any firewall and other protection programs may also remedy the startup issues since those often interfere with the Steam engine itself. For a firewall allowing Steam as an exception would be one idea as well as disabling the User Account Control(UAC) or lowering it down a notch if all the way up.

thank you for the information it all came down to my anti spyware/anti virus application, once I stopped them it worked fine. for future reference for others I am using PC tools spyware doctor with anivirus. I have now set the exceptions within PCtools spyware doctor to allow these games to run..once again thank you.
