    Battlefield Heroes

Hi, I have a weird problem with BF Heroes here. I know the game is still in beta, but I also have doubts it might be from my OS or PC. The game randomly crashes. It's just insane! I'm playing and all of a sudden this message comes up saying "Windows is checking for a solution to the problem...". I even turn on a theme I've made espacially for gaming. It's the Windows Classic mode, but with some wallpapers packed in there. I have found out that changing the resolution helps, but what's weird is that I get the crash when I'm in a LOWER resolution than usual! Problem is, if I put my resolution all the way up to 1280x1024 at whatever refresh rate the computer often crashes, because of overheating! Double problem! Right now I find 1024x786 @ 60 refresh rate to be the best, but the game still gets the "Error report" crash. If you could help, please do so! This is starting to piss me off.

    Drivers?

Umm... I beleive they're the latest from the ATI website, I just listed my model (x1050 series) and it gave me the latest download. Could the game be crashing because of an internet lag? I currently have awful firmware on my router which bugs, so do you think that updating the router firmware could work? Also, the game lags mostly after I get killed and it loads the other users' custumizations. If there are more than 7 people that I need to load the cust's for, game crashes.

no it shouldnt crash because of connection lag.
also if it crashes when theres a lot of people with custom outfits then there might be a problem with your hardware.
im tinking either video card or RAM.

Do you have similar problems in other games?

Beta game on a basically beta OS with no driver support.

Hope you realize that there are no Windows 7 drivers for that card available from ATI at the moment, and you have to either use the default driver that gets installed or use the Vista Cat 9.3 (and I assume install it using compatibility mode).

    Dust maybe...

Well, little lags while there's a lot of stuff to load, but that has never worried me, because I've seen the same games on the same loading sections, on my friends' PC's and there's even more lag XD.

My friend is gonna come take apart my computer and dust it after, say 2-3 days, I beleive that's the issue: Some particular parts haven't been cleaned since 4 years.

The beta site is currently down, so I can't really play the game more and "investigate" what is causing the crash, though I assume It's either because of my dusty ol' PC or it's because the beta still has bugs.

yes i do realize that, infact i was using vista drivers for x1950xt before i bought 4850. BFH works fine on windows 7 even though both of them are in beta

    @OP
there's a little chance that crashes may be caused by dust. you would need alot of dust to heat your hardware up to a level that will make your PC crash, but still it's worth a try.
Also, try testing your RAM with memtest
Look it up on google. You need to burn it on CD or USB drive, and launch it on PC startup. it takes about 4-5 hours, so leave it running overnight.

Thanks for the advice. Found the thing and put it on my old FlashDrive, will try it, but tommorrow, got other plans for tonight. And 'till the people at EA get "http://play.battlefield-heroes.com/" to work again, I think I'm gonna stick with Braid. Thanks for the help + I'll post again after the RAM test results are ready.

It's a lucky dip with BF:H, it took them 8 month to send out my invite.

My girlfriend got hers in about 2 month and my best mate is still waiting one year after we all signed up. (we all signed at same time from my house).
When you sign-up for BF:Heroes, you're signing up for a chance to be in the beta, it doesn't guarantee you will get a key.

Seriously, don't hold your breath and the very best of luck.

Fingers crossed, you might be lucky.
