None of my games work since i upgraded to windows 7

So, ever since i upgraded to Windows 7, the games that worked perfectly on Windows XP do not work at all. The most common error message i get is this:

Your computer could be running an old version of DirectX or DirectX may be disabled. If the problem persists, it may lie with your 3D cards specifications or you may have hardware acceleration disabled on your PC.

I've tried reinstalling directx, as well as several of the games and can't make any progress. Does anyone know of a solution to this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

One issue might be the directx being updated. if you have older games or older hardware, then you might not be updating the correct version of Dx. try downloading the updates for Dx 9 or 10 and see if the issue pesists.

Another issue might be the motherboard. You might need to flash the bios with a new version. If you need help, get CPU-Z and find out the mobo model. and then look online or post here the model number and we'll try and see if a new bios version has been released. Also, welcome to SF.

Edit: also since this could be any number of things, please post your system specs in the User Control Panel and also let us know what type up install you did for win7 either clean install or in-place upgrade and if you have 32x or 64x

Ya, and toss in your machines specs as well.

I have yet to come across an older game that doesn't work in Windows 7.
The only one that was flaky was Battlefield 2, but that was due to the patching order of the game.

I have tried running them in compatibility mode, but then my computer won't even recognize that there's a cd in the disk drive when i do that. No idea why that would be.
I have updated the drivers as far as i know.
Here are some of the games i have tried: The Movies, Sid Meiers Civilization IV, Command and Conquer the First Decade, Fallout; Collection, Age of Empires III
Thorsen, i will try what you have suggested and update directx 9 and 10. Also, I will do my best to post my specs, but I'm not 100% sure that I'll be able to provide everything as I'm not that great at this stuff.

Are you running the latest version of Age of Empires 3?
    My File Version is 4.105.919.3236

Go to where the age.exe file is, right click on it and select properties.
Mine is working fine in Windows 7 64 Bit.

I also have Civilization IV, but I bought that through Steam a few months ago and it is updated automatically to the latest version, so that works perfect as well.
