Why 32bit?

I had a discussion about that with a few poeple, we where thinking its because the amount of things not supported on 32bit like Flash and a few other bits of needed software and things like the amount of people saying they would skip Vista for Windows 7, hence the reason why Microsoft probably didn't want to alienate all the same users once again..

If there was a 1 for 1 copy of all the software used on 32bit under 64bit plus minus the whingers and the heap of news storys who said they would skip Vsta for windows 7, I bet they would have made it 64bit only...

Even if Windows 8 was going to be the first 64bit only release they would still end up making a 32bit edition because I head the same statement from Microsoft about server 2008, They said it was only going to be 64bit yet I have a 32bit edition disk

Eventually the hardware is going to outpace the software in terms of usage and manufacturing. In essence forcing the software developers to scramble to make their programs 64bit. Right now they are still open to leaving them at 32 bit because the 64bit platform of hardware isn't dominating the market share yet. However in the next few years I can see that changing drastically.

Currently there are very few developers even embracing 64bit because the consumer market isn't demanding it. So what is going to happen when the hardware market outpaces the software market? I think there will be a HUGE rush to rewrite or recode certain software to 64 bit platform to accommodate the great advances in software, but I could be wrong.

I was last under the impression that MS had stated they wanted Windows 7 to be the first complete 64bit only released OS, but I guess they have to do what is best for the company in the long run to make and continue to make a profit.

Well if they are going to release 32bit I just hope they focus even more on 64 bit like Vista and make it better or 100% just as good as 32 bit :)

Just noticed I didn't even get first post on my own forum!!

I did read just before Vista came out that the next Windows would just be 64 bit, but I guess they gave in to everyone asking for 32bit still, like they did with increasing the XP support.

How many people will be using less than 4gig of ram by 2010 anyway!!

Nah 2 GB is honestly still plenty of RAM. My laptop has 2 GB RAM and runs windows 7 flawlessly and can also play games from a few years ago at beautiful framerates. Not as sure about new games simply because I haven't bought any recently, but it plays Oblivion at 60-80 fps when the video card is overclocked. In fact I'd say 4 GB of RAM is overkill still for most people.

Agreed. Mind Vista pissed me off a few times, specifically when Windows Update corrupted my USB drivers; but most people I know that disliked it had put it on PC's that in my eyes had no business running XP, let alone Vista. You put Vista on a PC with 512 MB RAM and then bitch about it not running fast....go figure.
