    Desktop Context Menu

The context menu ( right click desktop) has lost it. EX: click new .txt doc and nothing comes up. Some of the others do not work (most). I looked at a tutorial for it and there was some reg files to restore change etc.. Also seen a link for shmnview-x64.zip. Before I bork everything, is the tutorial the place to start?

Just checked mine and a text icon shows up on my desktop. Nothing in it as I haven't put anything in it.
Try typing a doc, save, right click to shortcut it to desktop and drag and drop it into that text doc icon.
I normally don't want that on my desktop anyway. IMO
Hope I haven't confused you as I need more caffeine to get going.

Instead of coffee I should be drinking something stronger.
    Sorry for the misunderstanding.
Can you snip it as to what you want?

    Hello Bob,

You can try seeing if restoring the missing or nonworking New context menu item using the tutorial below may be able to help.

New Context Menu - Remove & Restore Default Menu Items

If not, then see if downloading and merging the file extention (ex: txt for Text document) in the link below used for the missing or nonworking context menu item.

Default File Type Associations - Restore

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

The selections in the new (click on new} menu are not working. Example: When I click on new and select text document, notepad should appear. Notepad does not come up. Refer back to orig post.
You notice I have some entrys from Office. When I restore to default via the tutorial. I will lose them correct? They are not working at present anyhow. Wil the file mentioned in the orignal post let me add them back? I just was interrupted by something and will have to return later.

Clicking New Text Document does not open notepad. It makes a icon for a blank document appear on the desktop, as shown in THWs earlier post. Have another example? I'm not saying there isn't a problem, just that you have one misconception.

Yep a misconception. My desktop icons are hidden and I wasn't checking them. All my clicks were there. Had to clean up. No problem. Solved.

Thats fine. I had the same problem when I first tried to do that. I made five new documents WITHOUT icons hidden before I realized what was going on.
