    Font is Random

So last night, my Windows 7 laptop said it was going to reboot for Windows Update. I woke up the next day and the font is random. I can't read anything and trying to navigate the menus and control panels are impossible. How can I get my computer back to regular system font?

    Welcome to the Seven Forums!

You say the font is "random" ... could you be more specific? Is the writing still in English or does it appear to be another language? Are multiple fonts being used at once, or is the text that does appear still of a uniform style?

The font turns out be like shapes/symbols. My laptop had to restart because of Windows Update. When I saw the User Login Screen today. It was the random shapes/symbols font. I can't navigate through control panel because the font is messed up. I can open word pad and type normally in it. When I open up a web browser and type into the search bar, it's the symbols/shape font. If I go on Facebook for example, the font is normal on the site.

If you open a program that is not natively part of Windows (i.e. a program you installed yourself), does that program have the messed-up fonts?

Also, take a look at this tutorial and see if it can help you get your correct fonts back.

    Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Fonts\Font settings

go to that directory in windows explorer and press "restore default font settings"
it should be the first button if it is unreadable.

Thanks BCXtreme. Following that tutorial helped. I have all my windows and everything to a normal-ugly font, but it's better than shapes/symbols. The problem is still not officially fixed. My date and time is just a bunch of boxes and the control panel is still symbols/shapes. I'll keep trying. Thanks people!
