    should i try the RC??

Hey guys im new here...just upgraded my pc without reformatting i'm currently runnin XP 5.1 build 2600...

now i was wondering should i try out the RC of windows 7 and if yes which 1?? (64 or 32)
I use the pc for gaming...i play mainly new games such as CnC3 KW and DoW2. I also use PsX2 and PCX a lot and therefore i also use an image driver like Dtools a lot so i would like to know how these fare wid win7.
Only things im worried about are speed and compatibility issues with these games and softwares. The guy who upgraded my pc told me i would see a much better speed runnin win7....

    these are my specs:
    Quad core Q6700 @ 2.667Ghz 4(CPUs)
    RAM: 4GB DDR2
GPU: Nvidia Gefore 7600GTX 256Mb (going to upgrade this in summer to a 9 series)

any help will be greatly appreciated...

Hi XoN and welcome to Se7en Forums

I would certainly give it a go, bearing in mind that the RC is available free. As for compatibility with your apps, I wouldn't like to say, but you can try them and see. If you have sufficient drive space, why not create a couple of partitions and try both versions? You may find that if an app won't work with 64-bit that it might with 32-bit.

See the links under Get the Download halfway down the page. You will need to sign in or create an account before you can access them.

You will need to place the downloaded .iso file on to a DVD using a suitable program, such as ImgBurn.

Yes I would update to Windows 7 and yes I would go with x64. As dwarf says it is freely available so it will cost nothing(yet).

Go for it, I guarantee you will not be disappointed:).

As the others said, go with W7. I'd recommend x64 as you have 4Gb of RAM (you'll lose about half a gig due to x32's limit on address space). Also recommended is a clean install (don't think you can upgrade from XP anyway).

I'm using it as my main OS, and thus far it appears a lot more stable than Vista is at SP1 (and I'm one of the apparent minority who actually like Vista :)). Since it is my main OS it's used for everything from games like WoW, Eve, Supreme Commander etc to Apps like WinUAE and MS Office. Even had virtual machnes running in VMWare with no problems.

ill probably post my feedback somewhere here later
lookin forward to seein the difference hehe

you can run 32-bit applications on 64-bit operating systems. This might help you decide: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...1-2497c146af15
