Turn off UAC (only if you know what you're doing with a PC)
Reboot, then right Click, Properties, Change Icon and change it to the normal icon and the shield will be gone

I keep UAC turned off because it's a huge pain in the ass in my opinion.

To change your UAC settings, Click your start button and where it says "Search" type in User

look for the one that says 'Change User Account Settings" and turn it off

I wouldn't suggest turning off a security feature to remove an icon annoyance! Short of modifying the lmageres.dll to replace the overlay icons with transparent ones. Try changing the applications icon, that should remove the overlay, you can then change the icon back to original and it should be gone. Some even turn off UAC, reboot, then re enable UAC. Once again, do not turn off UAC just to remove a visual annoyance. A Guy

So if I remove my antivirus, and my PC works fine for months, then I don't need it either? I'm not going to argue about it. It is not a good idea to suggest to others to turn off UAC. If you, or even I, want to do so, that is one thing. But to suggest it to another (and the 1,000's who may read the post) is not a good idea. This is not just my opinion, but a general consensus.
