How do you add programs to the startup folder ?

I have looked and looked and I can not see a way to add links into the startup folder. If i use Windows explorer to navigate to the Startup folder, I am told I do not have authority to access it (I am the administrator and only account on the system). Nothing in control panel seems to apply so how is it done now ?

Adding links to Startup folder

No. I am looking to modify the startup folder not the start menu.

What I want to do is add shortcuts to the startup folder so that certain programs start when the machine is booted.

Windows 8.1 Pro RTM x64

Hi Seelig and welcome to Se7en Forums

The path to this folder is as follows:

C:\Users\<YourUserName>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

This folder is normally hidden. Once you have access, simply right-click on the shortcut that you want, drag it to this folder and choose the option Create shortcuts here when you release the mouse button.

Temporarily stop programs in startup folder
Windows XP (and earlier?) prevented programs in the startup folder from running if I held down the shift key when logging in. This was very useful as I was able to put shortcuts to all of the programs I normally run into the startup folder but I could do a quick login (no startup programs) by...

I ordinarily access SeaMonkey by using a Classic Shell 2009-2014, Ivo Beltchev Start Menu. But somehow my 64-bit Windows 7sp1 laptop now has an additional SeaMonkey access location, at C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\SeaMonkey folder, which includes the following...

Programs in the Startup Folder
This is Windows 7 HP 64 bit. I have 4 apps in the Startup menu according to Start Programs. However I don't believe 3 of them are actually starting up. The reason I say this is I do not see any evidence of them in Task Manager and also another app that depends on one of them starting is not...
