    Windows 7 (Sleep, Terminate, Stand By)

    Hi,

    I have a big problem with my Windows 7, as usual when i was on XP. I used to leave my PC opened while MY Download Manager is working and download files stored in the download list... and when i come back to my PC i just move the mouse on my Pad and my PC is wake up normally.

    But on Windows 7 .. something is different,, everytime i leave my Pc and come back i found that screen is sleep and PC is sleep and everything is shutting down or sleep i do not know why.. and i tired to move the mouse in hope to see my PC waked up .. but impossible

    so how to keep my PC active even i left my PC for 1 hours or more ?

    I have a similar problem. If I leave my PC on but unattended for an hour or so, it goes to sleep so deeply that I can't wake it up! The only solution is to reboot.

    I had my 7100 x64 on a HP xw8200 desktop dump out when it tried to sleep. Totally corrupted files. I give it credit for trying to fix itself on reboot, but it could not fully do it. So I learned that Microsoft is trying to go "Green" with Windows7. It defaults to trying to turn off everything (cpu,hd,etc...). So I did a fresh reload and then immediately turned all the power saving features I could find off. Now I have no issues.

    Hello ITZAD and Wintings,

    Welcome to Seven Forums.

    Have you check in Control panel/power options/change when the computer sleeps. Also to wake from sleep with mouse requires a click, not just moving the mouse. Took me a bit to figure that out myself. Also try hitting any key on the keyboard to wake. If these don't work, check in device manager. Rt. click on the mouse or keyboard and select properties. On the power management tab and make sure 'allow this device to wake the computer' is checked.

    Hope this helps. Please keep us posted.

    Thanks, Gary. I had already set sleep to "Never" in an attempt to eliminate this problem but it still happens from time to time. Trouble is, I can't pinpoint any particular circumstances that cause it. (Incidentally, my mouse and keyboard are empowered to "wake the computer".)

    I'll keep watching and see if I can track down any special circumstances that apply when the PC goes into a deep coma.

    To 'force' the Hibernation off, open a CMD line (Start > Run > type CMD and hit CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER) that will open a 'admin commande line'. Enter this;

    > powercfg -h off

    If you need a detailed view of your power configuration, use this;

    > powercfg -energy

    That will generate an extensive HTML report. Give it time, takes a minute. It might help with troubleshooting.

    Thanks, Captain Zero. I've now "forced" hibernate off, as you suggested. But do I infer from this that setting sleep to "Never", via the Control Panel, is not always effective?

    Sometimes your BIOS power management settings will over-ride your Windows power management settings, Double check your BIOS settings for consistency with your Windows settings

    In addition to the above, if you have a wireless mouse, I have had a problem with mine waking the computer randomly. Had to turn wake off for that also.

    Not necessarily but I have personally had problems getting this setting to 'stick', as have others. This is a sure-fire way to disable it with the added bonus that it deletes the hyberfil.sys file, which is typically huge.
