    Windows 7 and Applocker

    Hi,

I am trying to deny access to a particular .exe using applocker. I have created a rule and the default rules, and made sure the appIDSvc service is running. My rule is not being enforced. The application runs normally. If I check the event log I can see a bunch of warnings stating appidsvc.dll:AppLocker component not available on this SKU. Not sure if this is a symptom or something else.

    All help gratefully appreciated.

Welcome to Seven Forums! Which version of Windows 7 do you have? AppLocker doesn't work on Premium or Professional.

    Windows 7 & Applocker

Thanks Greg. I am testing applocker on a machine running Win7 Professional. Guess that won't work eh?

We want to upgrade all our machines to Win7 but have all the usual problems. Lots of 3rd party apps writing to the registry / requiring admin rights etc. etc.

I looked at some MS compatibility tools but to date have had no joy getting these apps to run sucessfully under Win7.

Out of curiosity have you had to overcome anything similiar?

    Regards

If you have Professional, you can use the next best thing Software Restriction Policy. You can enable and configure it through Local Security of Admin Tools or Win key + R secpol.msc
