When I got to my PC this morning I noticed it had a few new updates that it had downloaded and needed to be installed. So I did the install thing reboot and it seemed that my system was running much faster. I never had time before work to check it out and see what was updated so that will be a task when I get home tonight. Anyone else notice this
I noticed it too. Maybe it was the fact that the update names were called "Update for Windows 7 x64" for example. Or maybe it's the fact that we both have 4GB of memory. I don't know...And if you have 4GB or RAM then why are you a x86 user?
Well at the time I did not see any need to go for 64 bit in fact it did seem that it may be an issue with some of my application and games so I just stuck on 32 bit. I am now thinking of changing over but nothing has really hit me as being a good enough reason to move over and have to do the whole system over again lol. If I do mover over I would then want to get a better HD as well as more RAM and just having done the major upgrade I feel I have spent enough cash on the PC for this month.
Oh and my RAM is 2 x 2 Gig purchased it this way so if I want more it is easer to add much more without having to ditch any
Like D/Rider I don't find any real need to go for 64, 32 handles all my applications well enough, DVD and Video work is no problem, and there won't be any problems with any possible incompatiblity.
Look at my spec, its a fairly good system
It makes a lot of sense now that both of you have said there is no good reason to move over to x64. My system came with Vista x64 installed on it so I really had no choice, but previously I owned a Windows XP x86 Laptop with horrible specs and all of my programs that I had on that works fine on x64. What x64 does is makes your system a lot faster and handles more memory. The only issue I have had with x64 is running Macromedia Flash Player (The program that allows you to create flash movies) because it wasn't compatible with x64 users. Well, if you two are satisfied with x86 then yeah, there is no real reason for you to switch over, as long as you are happy.
I would like to give 64 bit a go but the pain of doing the whole system over has put me off a bit. Maybe I will setup another drive sometime and load 64 on that and see how it goes
One other thing to ponder on. 32 bit is yesterday and 64 bit is tomorrow. Windows 7 64 bit is growing in leaps and bounds. You can run many 32 bit programs on W7 64 bit in most cases. I have found some that don't do it well. I think many after market programs are going 64 bit a lot quicker now. 32 bit is going down the road 16 bit did. Sooner than later the change to 64 bit will have to be made. I can't wait until 128 bit comes out. To answer your question. I did the updates for Windows 7 Home Premium 64 and my computer seams to be the same, fast and smooth.
