Thank you every one who replied.

I am aware the doggie works in Win 7 XP mode but am trying not to rely on it to much.

I figure if I'm going to work with a new OS then I need to get use to it in all it's glory and stop trying to climb in to my cot that XP home is/was including XP Pro mode.

To be fair I haven't given "search" in Win 7 much of a go as yet, so will reserve comment.

But my little one is goint miss the damn doggie and I must admit I have got so use to the way XP home search does it's stuff.

    Thanks everyone.

Actually once you get used to it the W7 search is far better, quicker and actually more intuitive to use as well.

Actually, therein lies the problem for me, I have given Vista and Windows 7 search a lot of tries, believe me but I can't, for the life of me, find a file I just pasted in my desktop to save my life if I use the search... I am being a bit mellodramatic when I say the desktop but you get my drift, right?

I hear and understand you perfectly, that is how I am but, when you have tried (and I do since I use the search a lot) and can't find anything, well... it takes the fun out of working with a new OS that's supposed to be better and more intuitive.

Heck, at times, it is easier for me to open up the Explore and go searching for it myself... I can usually find it way before Vista or Windows 7 tell me they couldn't find it.

Tram 1, I am absolutely & positively sure that it is something simple that I am overlooking when I try to search, because, it can not be that we are the minority here and everyone else loves the search system on Vista & Windows 7 but, and again, for the life of me, I can not figured out what am I doing wrong when I try to search.

Do not dispair though, if and when I find a solution, I'll be sure to post it here for us layman & mere mortals

    You deleted me, you say?!?

Amazing. It would never have occurred to me that someone might miss Clippy or PowerPup. I just had to do some research on this folklore. Turns out that, yes, that nuisance sprite was k-lined way back in '01.

It seems as though Microsoft is still offering these for download. In particular, PowerPup can be found here. And if that doesn't work for you, try the fully customizable Clippy.

The idea of your kids enjoying that puppy just gave me the biggest smile in a while.

Yeah, that puppy just gave me an idea that I haven't had in a while, it has something to do with a gun.

    Hi Asta, :)

I think it's like wearing a new pair of shoes, they fit in the shop but need breaking in or the same size is more comfortable for other people.

Well, I do get a lot of files with the Desktop name on it but, if I want to find anything in another drive or within a subfolder, that's when the problem begins.
