If you won't be working with 1080p, then the computer you found should be fine. It's far better than mine, but I use an older creative suite.
And to anyone who says Mac is more stable, I know to the contrary. I've personally seen them freeze, boot slowly and refuse to boot altogether. And I do think it is only a matter of time before we see viruses for Mac.
I would direct that question to Apple. After all, aren't they the ones who started the misinformation compaign known as Mac vs PC? They don't call him Windows Guy...they call him PC.
Apple doesn't understand their own focus. You can't target a PC, because they'll loose that battle everytime. What they should do, is try to target Windows, and then sell OSX as a standalone product to be installed on the PC of choice. However, they'd lose their profits, due to their insane mark up on their hardware.
There are several false points here. First, OXS is not more secure...just read any security company's findings...even ones not sponsored by MS. OSX has more holes, and Apple takes months to fix what Microsoft does in a week, thanks to Patch Tuesdays. Apple usually is in denial over a hole, and then they eventually issue a fix. That's poor customer service. Apple users also tend to "think" they are more secure, but that isn't the casae anymore, and that type is thinking is dangerous. Security through obscurity doesn't apply anymore.
Second, Macs aren't any more or less stable than PCs....however, when you consider the fact they should be...it is an embrassment of Apple that a device where they make the hardware and the software, has any issues aside of hardware failure. Game consoles don't have those issues, do they? Nope...you buy a game, it runs, and it always runs.
Truth is, if you really take a good look at Apple, and put aside the trendy, fashionable, Mac is awesome bias....and just stick to the facts....you simply can't justify the purchase of one. I have several Macs in my company, and their customer support can't touch Dell's.
It is absolutely sick how people fall into a belief that a company is 100% wonderful, and ignore so many facts. That cult or flock mentality kills me.
To prove I'm unbiased, I own two iPhone 3GS phones. Why? Because unlike their computers, the iPhones did more and offered more than any other Smartphone that AT&T was selling at the time...for a comparable cost as the competition. You absolutely cannot say this in the computer market.
There are currently no active viruses for OS X in circulation, and trojans must be installed to infect the computer, so yes Mac users are still more secure than Windows users, phishing, scams excluded. You have a point, though, as in the end, no anti-virus software can replace common sense.
I've used Windows for years now and still use occasionally, and I've had only couple viruses on my XP. When I ditched my old machine and switched to Vista I've had no viruses whatsoever.
Or you buy an Xbox 360 and get a red ring of death :)
Every company does make bad units, that's inevitable to occur with mass production like we have these days. Apple's computers do hold up longer than equivalent PC's and hold their value better.
I personally find nothing fashionable in owning a Mac, but yeah Macs have become more popular these days.
Apple does make very user friendly phones, I am aware of that. I own a nokia phone and compared to iPhone, the touch screen is pretty unresponsive and the phone tends to have occasional hiccups, slows down, and the interface is a mess, maybe that's just me, but no wonder Nokia is losing the smart phone battle.
Twibitsu, my cousins husband owns a Mac. He called me today about how its been acting up. I told him to take it to Apple store. He has a virus he got just surfing the web. They told him all Macs need anti-virus software and that there many Mac viruses in circulation, so, I take their opinion over yours.
IMO most of the best media editing software is available free and comes with Ubuntu Studio. Most commercial media editing software is overpriced and bloated. Perfect example is Nero
Rubbish, with Nero you only install the applications you use, any idiot can install the lot, selectivity is the answer.
Its only bloated(?) if you never use all parts.
A full range of options is not bloat.
I use DVD::rip in linux for video conversion and burning dvds and vcds mainly because it can do the same job as nero or AVS in less time, using fewer system resources and with more options, even converting & burning (or ripping & converting) on the fly in a single step (with no need to write a 4-8 GB TS file to the HDD, unlike any of the other video editing software I've used), but the UI is not for beginners. The upside is, there is no limited trial version of DVD::rip, and it doesn't open up any browser windows to sites that ask for money
