    Folder Access Denied

I have both XP and Windows 7 running as dual boot. My documents is on a separate partition (D:\) and I have placed a shortcut to this folder in the 'Libraries' of
Windows 7. I can access the 'My Docs'. folder ok but I cannot open the sub folder 'My Pictures', due to an "access is denied" message. I have checked the 'permissions' on the security tab and I have two entries both with full control, (one as administrator and one with my computer name) but nothing I do will persuade the system to give me access to this very important folder. I have to re-boot into XP and copy any files to a memory stick so that I can then access them in Windows 7. This is the only sub folder that will not open. Can anyone help?.

Have you tried to take ownership of the folder?

I have been trying to do just that but maybe I am not following the correct procedure. It is quite 'involved'. Is there a tutorial available that shows exactly what to do?.

Managed to fix the problem and now have 'take ownership' on the right click menu, this is a great little tool.
I still think Microsoft could do a lot more to make these issues easier to solve.

Many thanks for all the help and guidance, much appreciated.

    Access Denied in Windows 7

I've had the same problem in Windows 7, and I am the sole user/administrator of the CPU. My permissions are set to full access, but in my case, this is a random occurrence. One day the shortcut on the desktop will work, I will shut down the CPU and the next time I sign in I have no access. I can, however, access "photos" from the taskbar at the top of the CPU every time.

I have "rebuilt" the shortcut several times and it will work and then all of a sudden, I cannot access the shortcut again. I think this is an odd "security" feature, especially since it doesn't occur with any other shortcut (i.e., "my music").

I downloaded the "take ownership" registry entry and it appears when I right click it now, so many thanks. I don't always like the format in "photos" that appears, so to have the old stand-by "my pictures" is welcomed.
