Uhhh... That's kinda large. You'll get a lot of opinions on this but I'd go with i7 and a decent ASUS board. RAM's cheap so fill 'er up. Video and drives, well, anything you plug in will zoom in W7.

Oh and, stay away from liquid cooling.

    Good luck.

If you want cheap go with 1 generation or two older machine - I am running Windows 7 easily on a Quad Core 6600 with 4 GB of RAM.

If you want to future proof, go with an i7 - they are more expensive overall (requires DDR3 RAM, motherboards are newer so more expensive, etc.) but you'll be better off spending the money now rather than trying to upgrade the 6600 based machine in the future....

Precisely. ASUS have pretty reliable boards. I've been building rigs for a dozen years now so I've seen a few configurations over time. If you have a budget in mind, I can dump out a list of two of sample configurations. And yeah like McBlzr says, Frys and especially NewEgg.com are your friends.

Bump for Asus, they have quality and good support.

But if you're not building a gaming or power platform, I agree to go a few generations older. Anything like a dual core processor with 4 gigs of RAM and SATA drive would suffice. Check out my system specs (link on the lower left), this is a basic, cheap system (minus the vid card) that runs 7 perfectly.
