    ".exe" Files not running

    Hello guys,

I have installed Win 7 OS recently and i have got a problem regarding ".exe" files. During installation of any software(Eg. VLC Player), when i double click on the ".exe" file, nothing is happening(actually there used to be a pop-up asking my confirmation to continue.. but i don't remember what i did, but somehow i changed its settings.. Now i don't see any such pop-up asking permission) and the software is not getting installed. I tried several times, tried re-starting the system but nothing worked. Prior to installation of Win 7 my OS was Vista. And prior to that Vista again it was Win 7. Last time when i had Win 7, everything worked fine. Please do help me guys, as i need to install so many softwares.

    Thanks

You may have "lost" your file association. You can grab a registry file to repair it here. That would be my first option.

    @ Lasy B

I have tried your suggestion, but it's of no use.

    Thanks anyway !

How long ago was recently? Were you able to but now you can't install any exe? If the second option I'd do a System Restore to when it was working and then run sfc /scannow. I'd run a sfc /scannow anyway because something has obviously gone wrong!!

The "pop-up" is actually your User Account Control.

You could also (possibly) be infected with a virus. did you manage to install any Anti-virus software before this started?

also, did you mess with your Internet Explorer security settings? I made the mistake of doing that once, and after that, I could not even download an exe file, let alone run one. I literally had to do a clean install and start from scratch.

People.. My problem has been solved. I had multiple viruses in my comp, so all the .exe files were corrupted. I re-installed my OS and everything is okay now.

Thanks for your help anyway :)
