Sticky Notes go blank
Usually, upon restarting, Sticky Notes has erased what was on them. It asks me to approve it in Start Up, and I do, but I don't see anything in msconfig startup that looks like Sticky Notes.

It's a MS service, put your cursor on the MS extension of the msconfig>startup service and it will reveal skikynotes, sidebar, etc.
If the sticky note reappears at Startup on desktop but has no content, then you have another problem. Run sfc /scannow as Admin, or consider a Repair Install - Windows 7 Forums.URL .

Greg--You're talking to a relative newbie. I wouldn't attempt a repair/uninstall, and don't know what you mean by "MS extension" of Startup. I know how to read/use Startup, which is how I'm pretty certain I see no Sticky Notes there. SN works as it should, in the taskbar, etc, but keeps losing info, apparently connected with restarts.. I may not have been clear that it asks me if I want to put it in Startup, andf I click Yes. It doesn't seem to go there. Sorry to have to ask you to speak newbie. Thanks.

In msconfig>startup, look at your MS entries. In order to read what exact application they pertain to, you need to expand the MS file path listed to the right. You can achieve this by placing your mouse on the file listed until it expands to show you what the full file is - this is called the file "extension." The file for stiky notes should read something like: "windows/system32/stikynotes.exe." Just make sure it is checked.

Thanks again. It showed almost the same as windows/system32/stikynotes.exe, so startup isn't the problem. Thinking about it, I don't think the messages disappeared from Sticky Note necessarily after a restart, but at random. I wonder if Registry Mechanic or Ccleaner remove it when optimizing, and will check that tutorial. Any further advice?

Gregrocker-That page opened when I used CHROME instead of IE, I ran scannow and it found no problems. I'll not go further until/if Sticky Notes goes blank again. Do you agree?

Registry mechanic is a tweaking utility I believe, not a legit registry cleaner like the one included with CCleaner, which is the state-of-the-art genius app used by most pro's. It is possible it has messed up your stikynotes and who knows what else.
See if you can find a System Restore point before you ran Registry Mechanic - it may have set one itself. Get back before that and see if the problem goes away, and then please do yourself a favor and do not tweak Windows 7 as it almost always works against you - as those of us who beta-tested it for over a year found out increasingly the hard way.
Registry Cleaners which you see in display ads on webpage are mostly sales operations trying to take your money with little genius behind them. Meanwhile CCleaner perfected itself with sheer genius over 10+ years and rarely if ever makes a mistake. If you are nervous about using its Registry tab then set a Restore point or back up the cleaned files as offered, although I've never had to recover from an error by CCleaner in thousands of uses.Last edited by gregrocker; 18 Aug 2010 at 01:30.

Registry Mechanic says it "Scans, safely cleans, repairs and optimizes the registry." I'll follow your advice and use only Ccleaner, which I like. I'll also try to get back to before the last RM use. How do you feel about PerfectDisk defragger, which I use? I've seen it highly thought-of in forums and other places.

Perfect Disk trial version is the perfect app to shrink a partition which won't budge due to system files being in the way - use the Offline defragger on System files.
Otherwise I wouldn't pay for it when the Auslogics Disk and Registry defraggers are free and work perfectly themselves following CCleaning.
If System Restore doesn't function correctly from Win7 then try it from booted Win7 DVD Repair console or Repair CD: System Restore
