Help, Difficult Problem

This is a weird problem and I'm not sure I'm even in the right place. Basically, about a week ago I did the mandatory Windows 7 updates and now whenever I boot up my computer HP Wireless Assistant takes a good minute to load delaying my internet connection. Prior to this update my computer would boot up within a minute and be fully loaded and ready to use. Its an I3 processor with 4gbs of ram. Moreover, I'm using ESET Smart Security 4 so I highly doubt any viruses. Another question while I'm at it, should I use another software for Adware/malware? My ideal scenario would be to keep the computer running as fast as possible for as long as it can go given that I never go on sites that will do damage to the PC. Thus, any program recommendations would be appreciated, I've read enough to stay away from reg cleaners.

Try a clean boot
Most feel that malwarebytes is about the best, used in conjunction with Microsoft Security Essentials.

I would, actually run a scan with malwarebytes to make sure there is no malware.

I'm a huge n00b and that looks pretty intense, another other suggestions? Is Microsoft Security Essentials pre-installed, your going to have to excuse such questions I'm not at home at the current moment and curreently on an XP machine.

Actually everything is very easy. Microsoft Security Essentials is, in my opinion the best anti virus for Windows. It must be downloaded. You old Anti Virus uninstalled.

The clean boot is just a matter of unticking some services and then then slowly ticking them, again to see if one of them is the problem

Thank you. I'm current happy with ESET Smart Security as it does a fantastic job. I will try the malware solution then the clean boot. As it stands I feel the problem is exclusively with HP Wireless Assistant since everything else loads as it once did, yet HP Wireless Assistant takes about a minute to load delaying my internet connection. I shall reply with results in a few hours when I return home. Thank you for your help and humbleness

What I would do first is check your startup to see if the update added any programs to the list that might be taking priority over the wireless assistant. To do so:

Click Start > Type msconfig > Hit Enter > Click the Startup Tab > Check for programs you do NOT want to automatically start when Windows boots and uncheck the box next to them > Click OK > Reboot your computer

You could get rid of the HP wireless assistant and still use your wireless. It's just a different skin over the functions already built into windows, and in my opinion, completely useless because it adds unnecessary processes.

I suggest viewing what your last updates were. Note what they are. Then roll back to a date prior to those updates. Check your speed. If good, then update ONE item at a time. Check speed. Hopefully you can identify which update is slowing you down and block it.

When I disabled HP Wireless Assistant at a prior date, it disconnects my internet. Its a weird scenario where I cannot connect to the internet until HP Wireless Assistant loads.

I've previously tried this, by attempting to roll back my computer to a date before the updates, but I only had options for system restore the day after the updates.
