Hello. My OSX Desktop for W7.

Hi. I'm new here. I've been using W7 for a few days now, and it has been running great. I've always considered XP to be the most stable OS out there. But I wanted to upgrade to 64-bit and DX10. When I installed Vista last week, and ran the updates, it completely crashed on me. I was going to reinstall XP-SP3 when somebody told me about Windows 7 RC. I wiped my hard drive, and installed W7. I've managed to install all of my main applications on it, and everything runs very well.

8GB DDR2 RAM
1TB Hard Drive
Dual Layer DVD burner
EVGA nVidia GeForce 8600GT 512MB (Dual DVI)

MY DESKTOP
I'm not a fan of Mac products, but I really like the default desktop wallpaper for OSX. So I took the wallpaper, stamped my name on it with W7, and themed my desktop accordingly. I love my desktop.

So if I understood right, you did an upgrade install from vista to win7? If thats the case its not really a good idea. Its better to format and do a clean install.

No. I never do upgrade installs. And I never do partitions or multiple OS. I always zero my hard drive, and do a clean install. I did so with Vista. Then I ran the updates, and it completely crashed on me beyond repair. I had tried Vista when it first came out a few years ago, and encountered tons of problwms. I recently figured Vista would be stable enough for me to start using. Turns out I was wrong. But W7 is great!

No he was asking about when I installed Vista. I think he got the impression that I didn't do a clean installation when I said that I wanted to upgrade my OS to start taking advantage of DX10 and 64-Bit technology. But I didn't literally do an upgrade installation.

For the menu at the top, may try out RocketDock...

I myself have had nothing but problems with Vista as well... I do have a tri boot setup as well: XP SP3 for most programs and games, Vista x64 for work program testing, and W7 for more testing.
My laptop uses Ubuntu 9.04 primarily but also dual boots with W7.

You mentioned a Mac? I am of the opinion that the only good Mac is one running linux

What did Vista do? Because, with my config below, runs very well without a hitch and no crash. It most be the drivers that screws things up again... NEVER download drivers from WinUpdate... at least, not the graphics and chipset...

You should have visited Vista Forums and try to solve your Vista problem for at least make it work because it's a pretty reliable OS. But Win7 is bound to be much better than XP and Vista though...

It could have been that. Who knows? I had no reason to try to make an OS that completely crashes the system work. If it was a crash that didn't affect my ability to boot back into Windows, I would have checked it out. But a crash that completely messes up the OS because routine computing is unacceptable. I can understand if I was really doing something crazy with the system files or something. But running a routine update should cause the system to temporarily crash at the most. Not completely mess up the OS.
